Darya Kosilova has an allure about her that you can’t quite put your finger on, but it makes you want to hear more of what she has to say. The model (for Aritzia, Reigning Champ, Kit and Ace, Mavi), artist, creative director & founder of rapidly-growing ecomm vintage retailer Cherish has lived many, many lives in her life.
Born in eastern Russia, her family left the country at a dark time when she was just five years old, immigrating to Seattle and starting their life in North America. During high school, she was the brainiac goth, spending a lot of her time in the art room, playing the guitar, and modelling. After high school, an offer came to model in Milan for fashion week. From there, the journey of her life began to really unfold in organic, unexpected ways.
In this conversation, we talk about her early years growing up in a small studio with her family in Russia, her sweet connection with her resourceful grandmother Valentina, how modelling allowed her to live in various cities around the world for six years and how it taught her how to quickly adapt, what it was like running arts & culture print magazine The Lab, her thoughts on being an artist, what she’s learned about herself now that she’s an entrepreneur, and much more.
